There shall be a standing committee of the Association called the External Relations Committee.

Purpose: 

To enhance the flow of information between the Association and appropriate political bodies and the communications media, and to oversee the exchange of information between the Association and related outside bodies.

Directives: 

To recommend effective methods of communicating the aims and interests of the Association to federal, provincial and municipal politicians, to relevant external bodies and to the public at large. To make recommendations regarding the Association's contributions to the lobbying efforts of CAUT, OCUFA and any other relevant organisations.

Limitations: 

No action of the committee shall take effect until ratified by the Executive Committee, except for such issues where the power to act has been delegated to the committee by the Executive Committee or by the general membership.

Reporting:

To report on the activities of the committee at each general meeting and at other meetings as required; to present a written report to members at the Annual General Meeting and at other times as required.

Meetings:

The time, place and frequency of meetings shall be determined by the committee.

Composition: 

Four members of the Association, at least three to be members of the Bargaining Unit.

Term of Office:

Two members elected each year for staggered two-year terms.

Selection:

Elected at the Annual General Meeting. Vacancies occurring on the committee before an Annual General Meeting shall be filled by an appointee of the Executive Committee, subject to ratification by the membership at the next general meeting.

Chair:

The committee appoints its own chair, who shall be a member of the Bargaining Unit.
